Back to HomePADI Divemaster Course

If your love of diving interests you in a full or part time diving career, the PADI Divemaster Course is your first step. The Divemaster qualification is the first leadership level in the PADI professional hierarchy.

As a certified Divemaster you are able to assist and supervise both training and non-training dive activities in a variety of environments. PADI dive centres employ Divemasters to help with classes as well as lead guided dive tours. Divemasters can also expect to conduct both the PADI Discover Local Diving and Scuba Review programmes.

As a PADI Divemaster you have:

Prequisites

Prior to taking this course you must:

Before certification, you will be required to have logged at least 60 open water dives.

Content

Watermanship and skills assesment

These activities and assesments can take place anytime during the course and include:

  • Watermanship and stamina
  • Problem solving
  • Diver rescue skills assesment

Knowledge Development

Knowledge development sessions may be incorporated throughout the course or completed prior to any practical training and cover the following areas:

  • Dive Planning
  • Dive Management and Control
  • Supervising Students in Training
  • Diving Physics
  • Diving Physiology
  • Scuba Equipment
  • Diving Skills

Candidates must demonstrate that the required level of knowledge has been acquired through acceptable performance on the Divemaster exams. Candidates are also to prepare an emergency assistance plan for diving emergencies in the local area.

Practical Application

Although PADI offers two options for practical application training: Practical exercises or Internship; we at Sunsea believe that the latter offers a better quality of Divemaster and only offer Internship. As an intern you will gain practical experience as an instructional assistant and by supervising open water diving activities.

The candidate serves as an instructional assistant during a minimum of 5 PADI confined water sessions and 10 open water sessions and will also be required to prepare an underwater map.

Timetable

The course timetable for theory and practical sessions will be arranged between divemaster candidates and the instructor prior to the course because of the need for flexibility, particularly with regard to the practical segments of the course.

Cost

The cost, which includes full instruction, course manual, certification, pool and air fills is £395, which can be paid in monthly instalments.

All Divemaster candidates who serve an internship with us and who qualify with us are immediately entitled to subsidised dive trips/holidays and speciality courses.
